Italy top medals table at ISSF Shotgun World Cup

This week in review

11th to 17th March

We start the review first with an announcement that the International Netball Federation have awarded South Africa with the rights to host the 2023 Netball World Cup, which will feature in Cape Town. Netball is a growing sport and this will especially benefit further expansion in Africa where South Africa, Malawi and Uganda are currently ranked 5th, 6th and 7th in the world. Over the next seven days we have the same jam-packed calendar as last week. There are no fewer than eleven World Championships either concluding or starting, with all the remaining sports made up of World Cup and World Tour events. One that will especially please the Formula One enthusiasts, is the new season finally starting in Melbourne on Sunday. Lewis Hamilton is the defending champion no doubt looking to improve on his performance of 2018.

In World Cycling the road tour events are building up with races in France, Italy and The Netherlands. The standout event is the UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, from Thursday to Sunday. There are 2 months and 19 days to go before the first match of the ICC Cricket World Cup in England. Teams will be fine tuning their preparations as the tours eventually conclude. The Americas Rugby Championship had the final round of matches over the weekend with Argentina XV finishing unbeaten on 25 points. Next weekend is the final round of the Six Nations Championship and depending on the result later on today between Ireland and France in the men's competition, three teams still have a chance to win the title. Wales are in pole position and the only team still unbeaten. In the women's competition England are the clear favourites and also still unbeaten.

The 29th FISU Winter Universiade currently in Russia concludes on Tuesday. The tournament typically hosts eight snow sports in one event. The International Ski Federation (FIS) present twelve World Cup events in various disciplines with an event every day this week, while later this month there are two more FIS World Championships to bring the season nearer to a close.

As with last week, 39 sports are again showcasing tournaments. Have a great week!
