This week in review

18th to 24th March

The Six Nations Championship for 2019 was probably the most exciting we have witnessed for quite some time. In the men's competition three teams had a chance of winning the title going in to the last round of matches. Wales produced a very strong performance to shut Ireland out and claim the Grand Slam. England and Scotland had a thrilling draw and if Scotland had won the match, it would have been the biggest comeback from a halftime deficit. For the women it was much more clearer and England deservedly ran out champions thrashing Scotland in their last match. The new champions also remained unbeaten in the Championship. The Six Nations Championship has drawn attention away from the somewhat controversial new world competition World Rugby has been working on that will appear to shun the more smaller nations from being involved. We will have to see how the situation unfolds leading up to the World Cup in Japan in September this year.

Piteå in Sweden showcases three World Championships from Wednesday onward. World Ski Orienteering feature for Juniors, Seniors and Masters and all competitions conclude on Sunday. The International Ski Federation also stage two further World Championships this week. Norway host Telemark, while France host Speed Skiing. Skibob also have their World Championship later this week as March slowly brings the snow sports season to a close. In World Tennis Indian Wells concludes today, but we head to Miami for the next major event for the both WTA and ATP tours. The first match of the Cricket World Cup for men starts on the 30th May and teams will now begin the final preparations as tours conclude this week. Of all the premier events still in progress, the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi has the closing ceremony on Thursday. The World Championship for Indoor Aerobatic Model Aircraft and the World Bowling Junior World Championships both conclude on Saturday. Figure Skating has a full week of World Championships hosted by Saitama City in Japan, while approximately a half hour south, Tokyo hosts the IBSA Blind Football World Grand Prix from Tuesday onward.

We look forward to another week of amazing performances worldwide!
