Egypt first non-European team to win U19 Handball world title

This week in review

8th to 14th April

Hello from a grey London, but we can certainly feel Spring is in the air and for snow sports this week it is the last for the season. Andorra is weighing in with a Speed Skiing World Cup, while over in Sweden there are two FIS Junior World Championships in Snowboarding and Freestyle Skiing concluding on Sunday. In Hong Kong one of the most famous of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens tournaments took place over the weekend. Featuring alongside it each year is a qualification tournament to see which nation will join the Sevens Series in 2020. Ireland men and Brazil women secured their places for next year. Back to the main competition and Fiji took the honours beating France in the final. USA will still lead the overall standings after today. The next men's competition is in Singapore, while Kitakyushu in Japan will host the next women's competition with both featuring in April.

Yesterday was the first race of the UIAA Vertical World Circuit. This is a World Tour that features inside iconic tall buildings around the world and contestants run the stairwells. The Lotte Tower in Seoul hosted the start and next Sunday we head to the Allianz Tower in Milan. Next weekend is also the start of the P1 AquaCross season with Daytona Beach in Florida as the location. The World Tour also has two race weekends in Wales each year. One of the highlights of the week is the first Golf Major of the season to feature at the famous Augusta National Golf Club. The tournament is the 83rd edition and starts on Thursday with Patrick Reed of the USA as the defending champion. In cycling there are two UCI WorldTour races with Spain and France as the host nations. We take a break from Belgium having hosted a number of races already, especially the Ronde van Flaanderen still in progress today.

In Mexico City the Longines Global Champions Tour resumes on Thursday. The event is part of a World Tour of premier Showjumping competitions in various locations. World Championships concluding over the weekend include Women's Ice Hockey, Junior Fencing and Junior Ski & Snowboarding. World Sailing also has two competitions in the form of the Nations Cup Grand Final and the third round of the World Cup Series.

We hope all the premier events have been covered in the list below. Have a great sporting week!
