Italy top medals table at ISSF Shotgun World Cup

This week in review

29th April to 5th May

It will be Australia to face France in the Fed Cup Final 2019 on the 9th-10th November with the venue still to be decided. Both nations had 3-2 victories in their encounters over the previous weekend with the France vs Romania semi-final a much closer contest. Other tennis news is that there are four ATP and WTA tournaments starting on Monday, which leads up to the Mutua Madrid Open starting on Saturday. This is an outdoor clay tournament that finishes on the 12th May and one of two premier ATP/WTA tour events before the Paris Open on the 26th May. The Paris Open will be the second Grand Slam of the year.

The first Diamond League meeting starts this week with Doha in Qatar as the host city. The world tour is one of the premier IAAF events bringing together the best athletes from across the world. In Pontevedra the International Triathlon Union is currently undertaking the premier event of their season. The Multisport World Championships have already started on Friday (26th) and in addition, the Duathlon World Championships started on Saturday (27th) and concludes today. Looking ahead, Tuesday sees the participants for the Cross Triathlon World Championships, while Thursday is the Aquathlon World Championships. Traditionally a triathlon consists of swimming, road cycling and road running, but the cross triathlon is different in that the run and cycle is trail running and mountain biking. The aquathlon consists of swimming and running.

We have a slightly quieter week ahead in terms of the number of sports being represented. It is however, a very busy week for Group 1 horse racing with events in four nations. The highlight is the 1000 and 2000 Guineas to feature at Newmarket in England. We look forward to the next review and to see what the results and news will be for this week.
