Weekly Sports Review

3rd to 9th December

We start the review by looking at three results of recent tournaments. In World Chess Magnus Carlsen of Norway retains the title of World Champion by winning the tie break against Fabiano Caruana. Spain became the winner of the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup held in Uruguay. The final was won 2-1 against Mexico. The HSBC World Rugby Men's Sevens Series 2019 started in Dubai with New Zealand winning the tournament. It was a double for New Zealand as the women won the second round of their tournament also held in Dubai.

In the week ahead winter sports are beginning or resuming their respective seasons with the Biathlon World Cup in Slovenia, the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cups in Latvia and a number Ski and Snowboarding World Cups in different locations around the world. There are further world cup or world championship events in Bodybuilding in Tarragona, Curling in Omaha, Showjumping in Geneva, and Surfing in Oahu. The showjumping tournament forms part of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping, while the men's surfing tournament is a professional event on the World Surf League.
