Your Weekday Sports Review

10 - 14 July

A longstanding wish by Francis Ngannou, the Ultimate Fighting Championship's former heavyweight champion, the opportunity to enter a boxing ring and fight a professional boxing champion has finally arrived. The date has been set for 28 October in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the opponent is current heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. According to Fury's team, the fight will "take place under the official rules of professional boxing, with three judges ringside adopting the 10-point must system". Even though the title will not be defended, we look forward to the big fight in October.

Agadir in Morocco completed the World Eightball Pool Federation World Championships earlier in the week. With over 20 categories contested, France Women and Northern Ireland Men topped the team competitions. For the rest of the results, follow the following link.

The Athlone Stadium in Cape Town hosted the final of the World Rugby U20 Championship. Considered the favourites from the start, France did not disappoint as they thumped Ireland 50-14. The hosts defended heroically against England to claim the bronze medal by 22-15. Australia's women and men dominated the finals to become champions of the 2023 Hockey5s Oceania Championships

After Stage 13, Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard is still the Yellow Jersey holder at the Tour de France. His lead has been cut short to only 9 seconds as Slovenia's Tadej Pogačar bears down on the coveted prize. Over to chess news as the Women's World Championship Match played the last match in Shanghai before moving to Chongqing. Lei Tingjie is currently leading the defending champion Ju Wenjun by 3.5:2.5.

Wimbledon is ready for the finals. Czechia's Marketa Vondrousova and Tunisia's Ons Jabeur contest the ladies final on Saturday. Defending champion Novak Djokovic reached a fifth successive Wimbledon men's final where Spain's Carlos Alcaraz will be aiming to stop the Serb's incredible run of form on Sunday.

Until next time, have a great weekend in sport.
