We begin the week in Tirana where Albania's capital city becomes the home of mixed martial arts experts until the following Saturday at the 2023 IMMAF World Championships. Monday is also joined by all mushers and their dog teams contesting the International Federation of Sleddog Sports World Championships and World Masters in Spain's Ólvega.
Canada are the champions of the Billie Jean King Cup. On Tuesday we have the men contest the Davis Cup 2023 in Málaga, Spain. Brazil's picturesque Cauipe Lagoon on the northeast coast is already occupied with a kiteboarding competition. Joining them is wingfoiling presented by the Global Wingsports Association World Cup Tour showcasing Surf-Freestyle and Freefly-Slalom.
The sole major sports event for Wednesday takes us all the way to Thailand's Bangkok where pétanque becomes the centre of attention at the 19th World Women and Youth Triplet Championships.
The world's best junior boxers gather in Armenia's Yerevan from Thursday for the IBA World Junior Boxing Championships. Ruka is a popular ski resort in Finland especially for cross country skiers. Hosting three world cup events, we begin with the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup. The Luge season begins in Innsbruck, Austria, with a World Youth Challenge competition. Part of the Western Europe League of show jumping, Madrid hosts the FEI Jumping World Cup.
Made up of small groups of gymnasts, the International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics presents the World Championships for juniors and seniors in Kazakhstan's Almaty from Friday. The long 2023 Formula One season comes to a close with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix over the weekend. Ruka is joined by the FIS Cross Country World Cup and the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup. Freeski Slopestyle is the discipline for both women and men in Austria's Stubai at the FIS Freestyle World Cup. Para dancers gather in the Italian city of Genoa for the Para Dance World Championships. The Ski Mountaineering season opens with the first ISMF World Cup in Val Thorens, the popular French ski resort. It is also the last round of the 2023 FIM MotoGP World Championship with the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Spain as the venue. Darts professionals and fans will be heading to the Butlin's Minehead Resort in England for the Cazoo Players Championship Finals. Rio de Janeiro is the perfect setting for future stars of surfing competing at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship. The Professional Fighters League, a league for professional mixed martial arts experts, host their 2023 World Championships at The Anthem in Washington D.C. Covering 320 miles over three days, the Big Island of Hawai'i hosts the Ultraman World Championships. The race consists of a 10 km ocean swim, a 421 km bike ride, and a 84 km ultra marathon.
The best 32 freestylers in the world will battle it out at Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi, on Saturday to be crowned the 2023 World Freestyle Football Champions. Lying on the Dřevnice river, the city of Zlín in Czechia, hosts the final of the UCI Cycle-Ball World Cup. Sweden's Östersund opens the new season of the IBU Biathlon World Cup. The first date on the calendar presents more than a week of intense competition until the following Sunday. It's the turn of the juniors to contest the next ISU World Cup Speed Skating at Baselga di Piné in Italy. Rock 'n' Roll Main Class, Boogie Woogie, and Rock 'n' Roll Contact Style for both juniors and seniors will be on show in Geneva at the World Rock 'n' Roll Confederation World Championships. The juniors are again in action in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, but on this occasion it's the ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating. The second major cycling final of the week takes us to Belgium's Merelbeke for the UCI Artistic Cycling World Cup. Cali in Colombia is a favourite for major sporting events. Salsa on One is the discipline at the WDSF World Championship for adults. The last major Alpine World Cup competition of the week heads to Killington in Vermont where the women will compete in Giant Slalom and Slalom.
The World Dance Council spends the Sunday in Malaysia's Penang for the Professional 10-Dance World Championship. The world's best future stars of table tennis gather in Slovenia's Nova Gorica to compete in the ITTF World Youth Championships. The youth are again the main focus as they join the Butlin's Minehead Resort to showcase their darts skills in the Winmau World Youth Championship Final. We close the week in Dublin for Round 5 of the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup.
