This year several major competitions also include important qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. One such event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, holds the aspirations for all weightlifters around the world at the International Weightlifting Federation World Championships beginning on Monday. In Natanya, a popular resort city on Israel's Mediterranean coast, the next generation of stars compete at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships.

Already a major sport in Mongolia, the capital Ulaanbaatar begins the International Horseback Archery Alliance World Championships on Tuesday. Chess fans do not have to wait long for the next international competition. Heading to Bydgoszcz in northern Poland, the International Chess Federation presents the World Women's Team Championship. On Tuesday we also see the next major multi-sport event with the International Workers & Amateurs Sports Confederation (CSIT) World Sports Games 2023 in Cervia, Italy. 

Having previously hosted several important carom billiards competitions, Ankara in Turkey has been selected for the Union Mondiale de Billard World Championship 3-Cushion beginning on Wednesday. We then move all the way to England and to a previous Olympic Games venue where Lee Valley in London is the location for the International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom World Championships.

There are seven important competitions starting on Thursday. Using similar equipment as with fly fishing, casting sport experts and fans convene in Lublin and Bychawa in Poland for the International Casting Sport Federation World Championships in CastingsportPsachna is a small Greek town in Euboea, 16 km north of Chalcis. It becomes the focal point for clay pigeon shooting specialists at the 19th World Championship Finale World Baretta Cup. Finland's Kalle Rovanperä leads the overall standings as the FIA World Rally Championship next moves to Greece. Karting fans will be in Wackersdorf, Germany, for the next round of the FIA World Championship. Lugo, a commune in the province of Ravenna, Italy, hosts the FAI F2 Control Line World Cup for aeromodelling experts. Six separate classes will be contested over 11 days at the next UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Les Portes du Soleil in France near the border with Switzerland, normally a favourite for skiers. Laredo on the northern Spanish coast hosts the World Underwater Federation Spearfishing World Championship.

Friday is a busy day for sport. Uralsk in Kazakhstan opens with the World Masters Sambo Championships. The Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique has two important events. Sofia in Bulgaria hosts the Parkour World Cup, while the Senior Artistic World Challenge Cup features in Szombathely, Hungary. Lead is the discipline in Koper, Slovenia, at the next IFSC Climbing World Cup. Grand Prix 12 of the FIM MotoGP World Championship takes us to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy. Two International Ski & Snowboard Federation Summer World Cups feature this week. Ziano di Fiemme in Italy hosts Roller Skiing, while Grass Skiing is the main event in Marbach, Switzerland. The FIM Trial World Championship closes the season with the Trials des Nations in Auron, France. Remaining in France where the well known Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours hosts the next round of the FIM Superbike World Championship. It has been a long wait for fans of Rugby Union. Friday evening in Paris opens the first match of the Rugby World Cup 2023. Canfranc in Spain hosts the first of two World Mountain Running Association Gold Label World Cup races. Friday completes with the start of the World Aquatics Women's U20 Water Polo Championships in Coimbra, Portugal.

The Under 17's and Under 20's contest the Beach Wrestling World Championship in Constanța, Romania, on Saturday. Heraklion on the island of Crete is all set to open the Mediterranean Beach Games 2023. We have a number of World Sailing competitions over the weekend. Thessaloniki in Greece hosts the J/24 World Championships, while the A-Class Catamaran World Championship features in Toulon, France. We had the Masters Pilot Gig Rowing Championships complete recently, and next Saturday the Ladies Championships will be contested in Newquay, England. The second major sambo competition heads to the beaches of Juan Dolio in the Dominican Republic for the World Beach Sambo Championships. Concord in North Carolina hosts Playoff 1 of the Super Moto World Championship. Hermosillo, a city in the centre of the north-western Mexican state of Sonora, starts the Hyundai Archery World Cup. To complete the Saturday competitions, Model Automobile Racing fans are in Phoenix, Arizona, for the IFMAR 1:10 Electric Off-Road World Championship

The next stop of the World Triathlon Cup moves to Karlovy Vary in Czechia on Sunday. Örebro in Sweden hosts the International Dance Organization World Disco Slow Cup. The men contest the IRONMAN World Championship in Nice, France. The second World Mountain Running Association Gold Label World Cup race in Canfranc is the Classic Mountain event. Finally, we conclude the major events for Sunday with the third World Sailing competition of the week. The International One Design Class World Championship heads to Nantucket in Massachusetts.
