We are now halfway into the group stages of the Rugby World Cup in France. There has been one major upset so far with Fiji beating Australia, and the next two weeks will determine who qualifies for the knockout stages. On Monday chess experts gather in Ohrid in North Macedonia for the start of the World Team Chess Championships. Despite the tragic loss of life in Derna, Libya, all indications are that the World Juniors Bocce Championship will go ahead in the city of Oran. Bocce is part of the Boules Sport family.
Limassol Bay in Cyprus is the location for all freedivers on Tuesday as they begin the 31st AIDA Freediving World Championship. Joining Oran on the same day is another boules sport. Boule Lyonnaise will be on show at the Youth World Championships. The Olympic venue of Lee Valley in London opens the 2023 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships after the completion of three training periods. Artistic skaters head to Ibagué in western Colombia for the World Skate Artistic Skating World Championships.
We remain with the artistic theme, but on this occasion the sport involves billiards. On Wednesday Ankara in Turkey hosts the CIBA Artistic Billiards World Championships after recently hosting three Carom Billiards World Championships. Trentino in Italy is the focus of orienteering experts at the CX80 World Cup in MTB Orienteering, which also includes the U23 World MTB Orienteering Championships. The 5.5 Metre World Championship in Porto Cervo on the island of Sardinia, is the first of two major World Sailing events. Show jumping fans will be at the well known Zangersheide grounds in Belgium for the Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses. The World Juniors U20 Championships in Mexico City is the second major chess competition this week.
On Thursday XTERRA Sports Unlimited present the XTERRA World Championships in Trentino, Italy. XTERRA is a triathlon event that involves swimming, mountain biking, and trail running. Wake Surfers head to the Pineview Reservoir in Utah for the start of the World Wake Surfing Championship until Saturday.
After Singapore, Formula One moves further east to the Suzuka International Racing Course in Japan from Friday for Round 17 of the World Championship. Wujiang in China completes the Sport Climbing season with the Lead and Speed World Cup. The Grand Prix of India is the 13th on the FIM MotoGP World Championship calendar at the Buddh International Circuit. The Racketlon World Tour comes to a close in Graz, Austria, with the Super World Tour Finals. Sylt is a popular German island known for its pristine beaches, thatched-roof houses & dune landscape. It is also a favourite for windsurfers as the Professional Windsurfers Association begins the next World Cup. With the Ryder Cup approaching, we first go to the Club de Golf Finca Cortesin near Marbella in southern Spain for the Solheim Cup. The women's golf competition puts the 12 best European players against the 12 best USA players. Girona in Spain will host two rounds of the UCI E-MTB Cross-Country World Cup on Friday and Saturday. Only three rounds remain of the FIM Superbike World Championship. Next weekend we are at the MotorLand Aragón in Spain. Pontevedra on Spain's northwest coast hosts the World Triathlon Championship Finals, the Para Championships, and the Age Group Championships over the weekend. Vila Velha de Ródão is located in central Portugal and hosts the second of back-to-back UIM F2 World Championship races within the country. Dakhla, a city located in the disputed territory of Western Sahara, is an annual fixture for kiteboarders. Wingfoil and Kitesurf experts will compete in separate World Cup competitions. The next major World Military Championship moves to Rio de Janeiro for the 54th competition in Shooting. Clay Pigeon Shooters are in Córdoba, Argentina, for the 33rd World Championship Beretta World Cup Final. The Laver Cup, an international indoor hard court men's team tennis tournament between Team Europe and Team World, will this year feature in Vancouver, Canada.
The Asian Games 2023 begin on Saturday in the city of Hangzhou, China. The International Committee of Sports for the Deaf presents two World Championships beginning over the weekend. Football features in Kuala Lumpur, while Hersonisos in Greece hosts tennis. The growing combat sport of Sambo will be contested in Novi Sad, Serbia, in a World Cup event. Standard is the discipline in Szombathely, Hungary, at the World DanceSport Federation Youth World Championship. Round five of the UCI Cycle-Ball World Cup will be held in Germany's Ginsheim-Gustavsburg. Mushers and the dog teams will be in Norway over the weekend where Varingskollen hosts the next IFSS World Cup. Sarrians in France hosts two UCI BMX Racing World Cup races. The men race in Newquay, England, at the Pilot Gig Rowing Championships. Pico do Gavião in Brazil is one of the favourite territories for paragliders. From Saturday the Paragliding World Cup Association presents the next World Cup. Shore anglers will be in Mazatlan on Mexico's Pacific coast for the World Championship for Masters (over 55). The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum has been selected as the venue for the final of the Supermotocross World Championship. To complete the major events for Saturday, St Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco hosts the International 505 World Championship, the second major World Sailing competition.
Roden in the Netherlands hosts the popular FIM Long Track of Nations on Sunday. Britain's Matterley Basin hosts the next round of the FIM Motocross World Championship. Sarrians hosts the second of the UCI BMX Racing World Cup races. The complete the week, the island of Easdale on Scotland's west coast hosts the World Stone Skimming Championships.
