The International Casting Sport Federation, founded in 1955, is the world governing body for Castingsport. ICSF is a non-profit organisation based in Prague, with the objective to promote and grow the sport in every nation around the world in accordance with the Olympic principles. The federation sanctions competitions on all levels ensuring that rules of the sport are followed with accuracy. In addition, dates and venues are arranged for major competitions like World Championships (every even year) and Continental Championships (every odd year). Castingsport forms part of the World Games program and the federation is responsible for the successful participation and the arrangement of the Castingsport World Games. Apart from being part of the World Games, ICSF is also a member of the Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport (AIMS) and the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF). The Confédération Internationale de la Pêche Sportive (CIPS) is the international sport fishing federation of which ICSF is an associate member.
For many years the sport was practiced in water as casting is derived from sport fishing. It was during the 1970s that a step was taken to move from open ponds to sporting grounds, making castingsport more accessible to a wider audience and a bigger group of participants. The equipment is often the same in dry casting as in fishing. England and the United States can be credited with the origin of the sport. The first tournament featured in the outskirts of London in 1881 and the sport becoming more prominent during the latter parts of the 19th century. Fourteen National Associations came together in 1955 to form ICF (now ICSF) and two years later the first World Casting Championship was held in Germany. During major competitions, there are nine different disciplines. These include fly accuracy, fly distance single handed, spinning accuracy Arenberg target, spinning accuracy, spinning distance single handed, fly distance double handed, spinning distance double handed, multiplier accuracy, and multiplier distance double handed.
Castingsport is an activity accessible to all age levels and for both genders, making it truly global and open to potential for great development and growth. Already part of the World Games every four years, the next goal on the horizon for the federation is Olympic participation.
