Happy New Year! We hope this will be an incredible year of sport for you. We begin the first day of 2024 in Germany's Oberstdorf for a women's FIS Ski Jumping World Cup. There have been a number of ski jumping competitions over the last few days and several form part of the FIS Four Hills Tournament. 

While the leaders of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race are expected to reach the finish line on Tuesday, we are again in Australia where Melbourne becomes the home of the Tasar Class at the 2024 Tasar World Championships from Tuesday. The men are in Austria's Innsbruck on the same day for an FIS Four Hills Ski Jumping World Cup

Doha has the honour of hosting the best men's table tennis players as they contest the World Table Tennis Finals from Wednesday. Villach in Austria then becomes the second venue for an FIS Women's Ski Jumping World Cup. The week also has two FIS Cross-Country World Cup competitions with Switzerland's Davos opening the first event. We then move to South America for a further two major World Sailing races. Argentina's Mar del Plata hosts the ILCA 6 Women's World Championship, while Rio de Janeiro showcases the 420 Class World Championship.

The ski marathon season resumes in China's Changchun on Thursday for a Worldloppet Ski Federation Vasaloppet China over a distance of 50km. The natural track in Italy's Ulten hosts the juniors at the FIL Luge World Cup. The junior fencing experts are also in action this week in two FIE World Cup competitions. We remain in Italy where Udine hosts the first event. The next stop of the International Biathlon Union World Cup tour is in Germany's Oberhof. Flipper Pinball fans will be in California's Riverside to watch the experts compete in the International Flipper Pinball Association World Championship

One of the toughest endurance motor races begins in Saudi Arabia's desert region on Friday. The 2024 Dakar Rally runs for two weeks and will produce eight separate champions within their categories. We are back in Austria's Bischofshoven as the men contest the next FIS Four Hills Ski Jumping World Cup.

Mushers are competing in three International Federation of Sleddog Sports events. The first takes us to Kontiolahti in Finland for the Kontsa Winter 2024 World Cup on Saturday. Budapest hosts the second FIE Junior Fencing World Cup of the week. Slovenia's Kranjska Gora and Italy's Adelboden are the homes for giant slalom and slalom ski experts in FIS World Cup competitions for women and men respectively. While the Junior Men resume their week in Gothenburg, the Under 18 Women compete in Italy's Egna in the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I, Group A. It is a full week for luge fans. We are again in Italy at the natural track of Laas for the 2nd FIL Luge World Cup. After Davos earlier in the week, cross-country skiers move to the popular Val Di Fiemme in Italy for the next FIS World Cup. Germany's Winterberg completes the trio of luge events with the Eberspächer World Cup and Team Relay World Cup. The Under 18 Women are again involved in ice hockey, and on this occasion Switzerland's Zug hosts the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women's World Championship. Norway's Hamar and England's Dalby Forest are the venues for the next two IFSS World Cup sled dog races. Saturday completes at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, with the first round of the Supermotocross World Championship.

We approach the World Championship rounds of bobsleigh and skeleton, and the juniors compete first in Norway's Lillehammer at the Skeleton World Championships on Sunday. The 2023-2024 UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup season has reached the 12th stage in Belgium's Zonghoven. Finally, the first week of the year completes at London's Alexandra Palace where The Masters compete at the World Snooker Tour event.
